I’ve been a bad blogger lately, I’ve had so much to do in RL, and spent all of my spare time sleeping, so I’ve not updated for aaaaaaaaages. While I’ve been away, I set up an etsy shop to sell my creations: spinning fibres (batts and tops), handspun yarn, and hand-dyed sock yarn.
Here’s a pic of a few things I added last night.
In other exciting news, I got piggies!!! Well, not me personally, they live on a field belonging to a friend which backs on to my bf’s garden, so I get to see them lots and give them lots of scratches and kisses (piggies don’t like kisses so much though). They are Kune-kunes, and they are about 8 weeks old. They’ll be ready for eating next summer, which I’m sure will make me sad, but I’ve had kune-kune meat before, and it’s lovely. We’re also getting another one, who will be mine. He’s the runt of the litter and has mostly been hand-reared, and he’s so friendly, he comes running over to see you when you go visit, and last time I was there I cuddled him lots, and he fell asleep in my arms. We didn’t get him with the others cos he was very little, so we thought if we took the big ones away he might be able to get more milk from mum, or at least get a bit larger before we take him away. You’re not allowed to move new pigs into the same area within 20 days, so that restriction gives him plenty of time to grow, and he should be with us in a couple of weeks. I’m just hoping his big brothers aren’t mean to him when he arrives. I tried to sort some pics to show them, but the PC kept crashing, so you’ll just have to take my word for it that they are super cute.
Now onto what you’ve all been reading for….free stuff! In honour of my new shop, I’m giving away this pair of batts, in a colourway called ‘fireworks’. They weigh 85g together, and are mostly made up of merino, with tencel, alpaca, silk, acrylic, sari silk threads, and lots and lots of sparkle. I made one large batt in layers of colour and black, then split the batt in half and recarded one half to blend the colours more.
To be in with a chance of winning these batts, simply reply to this post and tell me which of the items in my shop is your favourite, and why…and any other comments you have about the shop, make sure you include your ravelry name or some other way to contact you should you win. I will pick one name at random at midnight (GMT) on fireworks night (5th November). Anyone who buys something from the shop between now and the deadline will get an extra entry. Good luck!
For those of you in countries who don’t have fireworks night and are wondering why we do it, the reason behind it can be found here.
Hi Vampy! My favourite thing in your shop is the Halloween batt, because it’s the perfect set of spooky colours.
Brightsider
My favourite thing is the Halloween batt, orange isnt usually a colour I would chose, but it looks lovely in combination with the purple and black.
My favourite thing in your shop – oh no, how can I choose! I think the hand-dyed yarn ‘solar’ has to be my favourite, though like others, the Halloween batt is just magical.
Solar is just a wonderful range of colours, very bright and happy! And I am intrigued by the idea of using sunshine to dye yarn, so I’m going to have to go and educate myself on that process now 🙂
I love the forest fruits top.
Those are beautiful batts!
Hi VAmpy
I love the Karma Batt because its a beautiful colour and is just like the real thing.
I think your shop is fantastic with fantastic items and fantastic photography. It really catches your eye.

I’m torn between the Karma batt and the Hallowe’en one… but I think Karma is more the kind of thing I’d buy year-round. Great looking shop!
I like the Karma batt best, partially because I love all things Wensleydale but also because the kitten picture is so darned cute!
Your batts are amazing. Thank you for having this give away
Hi, Vampy!
I’m loving the Halloween batt, the way is works from the dark to very bright is perfect!Great looking wool in the shop, my trigger finger (for buying) is already twitchy!
Awwww piggies, the Boyfriend would like pigs.
My favourite item in the shop is the halloween batt I love how intense it is.
My favourite has to be the Karma batt, ‘cos i came up with Karma kittens name. 😀

P.s. Pleeeease post piggy pics? 🙂
I love the Halloween Batt, as that’s a great purple and a great orange, and they are not combined nearly often enough 🙂
Well I like the one that is going to live with babylonglegs/sarah the most (thats the one in the bottom right), mainly because I like all the colours. But everything else is beautiful too

Hi Vampy
The ultraviolet batt is my favourite. i love blues, greens and reds adn non-solid colours, so this ticks the boxes for me.
I love the Forest Fire batt for it’s rich, bold colors. So pretty!

I love the halloween batt! I just started spinning and I am just drooling over fiber of all kinds and yours are just beautiful! I may just be buying some halloween from you to get in the festive spirit of things!
Pamela (aminia on ravelry)
I love the way you package your batts!
I love the Forest Fire – as a batt or as a yarn (I’m just learning to spin).
Aw, love the idea of the piggy falling asleep in your arms!!
Anyhoo, fave thing from the shop – that has to be the forest fruits tops, it calls out to the purple fangirl within! But everything looks good and beautifully presented.
Hi, my favourite is between monsoon and fairground. The bit of sparkle feed my magpie tendencies for something bright, but I think it would be monsoon. Blue always wins in the end and the idea of a silk/cashmere just sounds lovely. Congrats on the shop, looks great
Remember Remember
The 5th of November
The gunpowder, treason, and plot
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
I love the Forest Fire batt, it reminds me of the fireworks my Mom used to buy to celebrate the 4th of July. My family and I now celebrate not only the 4th of July, but the 5th of November. True freedom should belong to all.
Congrats on the new shop!!! I’m off to try out a friend’s wheels tonight to see if they might be right for me and if I want to move from a spindle to a wheel.
(My favorite movie is V for Vendetta, hence the aquaintance with the holiday) I love that movie, I cry every time.
I really like that you have fiber for socks with a bit of nylon in them. I have been wanting to spin for socks for a while but was wondering about the lack of nylon. Anyway, I really love your colorways especially the bats of Forest Fire and Forest Fruit.
Mmm…you make some great stuff in that shop! I think my favorite is the karma batt, or the forest fire batt!
I really like Karma because as you say it reminds of your adorable kitten! It would also make a stunning lacey something
I like the fairground batt Vampy! But I really love the sparkly batts you are offering up as a prize in this competition! I’m freestylefibre on ravelry!
Which is my fav.? Difficult! I’m loving all of your batts so far. I’m most tempted by Ultraviolet because I LOVE purple, as does my 3yr old son and that is amazing, so vivid!! And Fairground because my 5yr old would love it, he LOVES bright colours, rainbows of colour, anything bright. Although if I told him your gorgeous offering was called fireworks he’d opt for that – he loves fireworks (bright colours again!)!!
You can contact me through Etsy – your customer, Shadownto 🙂
